New student

Information for new students

”To be a värmlänning is not about origin – it is a state of mind”

Are you a new student or new in Uppsala? Well, then you have surfed onto the right website, because Värmland’s Nation has everything that the Uppsala student life can offer. Together with the 12 other nations, we help make Uppsala the best student city in the world. Thanks to Uppsala’s nations, traditions from the 17th century have been well-conserved; you need only see one Spring Ball evening in Uppsala in order to understand that it is entirely unique. You will never forget how fun it was to study in Uppsala; even when you are old and grey you will remember these wonderful years.

Uppsala’s nation life has a long history and Värmland’s Nation has existed for more than 350 years – in 2010 we celebrated our anniversary at Uppsala castle!

Why should you choose Värmland’s Nation?

Because we are a very open and active nation, of course! There is lunch from Monday to Friday, pub from Tuesday to Thursday, plus the club State of Mind on Fridays, Sundayfika on Sundays and plenty of gasks (fancy dinners with entertainment). But also because you can get to know many awesome people! We are like an extra living room in your life. We also have a great variety of organizations that can tear you away from the books and let you rest your brain while you, for example, dance, play football, sing in choir, or practice martial arts.

We are one of the most generous nations when it comes to handing out scholarships, which you can apply for as a member of the nation. We also have housing – both rooms in corridors and apartments.

You do not have to be from Värmland to be a member of Värmland’s Nation; we are open for all students.

RECCE?!?

As a new student in Uppsala, you are known as a ”recce” or recentior until you have earned your first university credits. You have the privilege of being able to go to the Reccegask, which is a wonderful gask (fancy dinner) for all new students. Apart from this, we also have a Recce Reception that shows you what Värmland’s Nation has to offer, and why it is worth being a member.

The Recce Committee

The members of the new student committee, or Recce Committee, are the ones who take care of new students in Uppsala. We register you with the nation, organize activities, and make sure you get all the information you need as a new student. So if you have any questions about housing, Internet access through Up-Unet, letters of acceptance, or anything else, we will try to give you a good answer or refer you to someone who knows.

Welcome to Värmland’s Nation and Uppsala’s student life.

The Recce Committee!
